Takao wares a white Admiral suit with short skirts, a white bow in her hair, a pair of black stockings, and a pair of lazy shoes of the same color. Her left hand holds a katana and at both of her sides she's equipped with an arsenal of artillery and torpedoes. Takao’s ears do not stand up the same way her sister’s do, instead they stick out at the sides.

Her name comes from the Takao mountain located on the outskirts of Kyoto.
Near the end of the war, Takao was so badly damaged that she could not be repaired in Singapore and was unable to return to Japan. Consequently part of her tail was cut off and she was docked to become a fortress to defend Singapore until she was sunk by HMS Newfoundland as target fire on October 19, 1946 in the Malacca Strait.
