A monitor is a heavily armed warship were its design precedes the battleship, is named after the USS Monitor. It was neither fast nor strongly armoured but carried disproportionately large guns. They were used by some navies from the 1860s, during the First World War and with limited use in the Second World War.
Monitors are fragile yet powerful shelling-support warships. Unlike the bigger counterparts like Battleships and Battlecruisers, they consume less fuel.
